A Tribute To Ian Smellie, 1930 - 2011

It was with shock and great sadness that we learnt of the death of Ian Smellie.

After a long, distinguished career with Boots, Ian dedicated his retirement to Nottingham Mencap. Joining as a trustee in 1995, he was elected as Chairman in 1999 and became President of the Society shortly before his death.

Ian was a tireless campaigner on behalf of people with learning disabilities, their carers and the voluntary sector as a whole.

"I would like to offer my condolences to the family on behalf of the Learning Disability Partnership Board. Ian's outstanding contribution and commitment to our work will be sadly missed. Our sincere best wishes to Gill his wife."

Cllr. Eunice Campbell, Portfolio holder for Adults and Health.

Ian's funeral will be held on 11th August. Please contact Nottingham Mencap for further details.
